   • There are several parameters that need to be measured to ensure a safe and healthy water environment.​

   • Several technologies are already developed, however, they need to be reevaluated according to present and future needs.

2. Development of enhanced in-sewer purification technologies

   • The sewer pipe can be used to as a wastewater treatment technology and can potentially work in synergy with existing wastewater management systems.

   • Mechanism of targeted substrate removal under an intermittent supply of wastewater is of interest.

3. Detection and monitoring of metabolic transformation products after biochemical processes

   • The transformation of pollutants can be monitored by their transformation products.​

   • Various techniques can be developed and used to monitor these identified metabolites.
